Host Family Respite Program

The Host Family Respite Program is a Ministry licensed overnight respite program offered to families of developmentally disabled adults or children. This is used in 24-hour blocks of time. As an example, this service may be arranged as one (1) weekend per month; however, families can make their own arrangements with the Host provider to meet their individual needs (i.e., blocks of times such as one (1) week, may be arranged for families who wish to take vacation or in the event of a family crisis (i.e., illness of a caregiver). This service may be provided in two ways:

In-Home Respite: a respite worker comes into the home of the individual requiring relief for the time period requested. This type of service is most appropriate for those individuals requiring extensive medical equipment or have behaviours where structured daily routines are vital.

Host Family Respite: the individual attends the home of a Host family provider for requested time period. This method of service provides opportunities for individuals to experience the routines and activities in which the Host family is involved. The Host provider's family and home is screened and approved and meets the licensing requirements set out by the Ministry.
