Home Counselling & Supports for Children & Youth Developmental Services for Children & Youth Behaviour Support Program
Behaviour Support Program
The REACH Behaviour Support Program gives families strategies to help with behaviours of children who have a developmental disability.  Sometimes these behaviours come to the forefront at home and sometimes at school, daycare, or other community settings.

In this program, a group of REACH staff work with the family to design a program to help put these strategies to work at home, at school and in the community.

The Behaviour Support Program can provide:
  • an objective assessment of your situation;
  • behavioural & developmental counselling for your child;
  • help to develop consistent and appropriate routines for your child and your family;
  • referrals to specialized behaviour services, both inside and outside Haldimand and Norfolk, such as Child and Parent Resource Institute (C.P.R.I.), brain injury clinic or other REACH services;
  • helpful advice for other caregivers who work where your child is enrolled, such as in schools or community services;
  • and positive reinforcement strategies.
The program can also help in transition planning processes, particularly in cases where children are returning from residential assessments which can include discharge planning conferences and assisting the family with recommendations.

Am I eligible?
The Behaviour Support Program is a voluntary service available to children, who are between the ages of two to 18.   Children must be identified with a developmental handicap and have developmental delays in at least two areas. They must also reside in Haldimand or Norfolk counties.

Referrals are accepted from a parent, legal guardian, or from a third party (with parental consent). The parent, child, principal and the classroom teacher can be involved in the assessment phase to help identify the child's strengths/needs and to enlist cooperation of all parties.
