Community Action Program for Children |
|
History
In 1994, a diverse group of people and parents from the community, health, education and social service fields joined together to form The Steering Committee for the Community Action Program for Children.
They applied to Health Canada for grant money to raise the health and social well-being of children ages 0-6 through a variety of supports to families in Haldimand and Norfolk counties.
They were successful and the Haldimand & Norfolk Community Action Program for Children (CAPC) has been in operation since October 1994.
CAPC is sponsored by Haldimand-Norfolk REACH. The Public Health Agency of Canada, in agreement with the Province of Ontario, provides funding for CAPC.
Programs that are offered by CAPC fall under six areas:
1. support for women having babies 2. family support, education and resources 3. nutrition 4. healthy child development 5. community development 6. service system change (community advocacy & work)
