Groups for Parents & Caregivers

Parenting Groups

Through a variety of parent education and support groups the family unit is strengthened by creating learning opportunities which build confidence, competence and connection. Our facilitated groups are community-based and are located throughout Haldimand and Norfolk at designated Ontario Early Years Centres.

Parents/caregivers can choose from on-going weekly groups as well as 6 or 8 week curriculum based groups:


Moms Talk
A weekly support group for moms. Moms get together to talk about things that matter to them including relationships, parenting, feeling alone and friendships. Participants join a facilitated group to discuss the issues that matter to them. Children participate in a structured program. Snacks and transportation provided.

This group is held every Wednesday from September until June at the Ontario Early Years Centre located in Simcoe.

Parents/caregivers of children ages 0 to 6

Positive Discipline in Everyday Parenting
Positive discipline is an approach to parenting that teaches children and guides their behaviour, while respecting their rights to healthy development, protection from violence and participation in their learning. Positive discipline is based in research on children’s healthy development and effective parenting, and founded on child rights principles.

Parents/caregivers of children ages 0 to 6

Beyond the Basics
Learn new approaches to parenting through play-based learning, discussion and problem solving.

Eligibility
A group for parents with children 0 to 6 years involved with the Children’s Aid Society.

COPE
Put confidence into your parenting by building positive skills to address your child’s challenging behaviours.

Parents/caregivers of children ages 0 to 6

COPEing with Toddler Behaviour
Parents learn strategies for continuing to build the attachment relationship with their toddler. These strategies assist in reducing parent child conflict.

Eligibility
Parents/caregivers of toddler aged children

Right from the Start
An attachment based program for parents of infants. Parents learn to: read baby’s cues, respond appropriately, follow baby’s lead in play and feel more confident in their role as parents.

Parents/caregivers of newborn children

FASD Caregiver Support Group

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Caregiver Support Group

The objectives of the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Caregiver Support Group are to:

  • Establish a safe environment to discuss experiences of living with an individual with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
  • Reduce isolation by facilitating caregiver connections
  • Assist each other in becoming advocates
  • Develop skills that assist in understanding and managing the needs of an individual with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
  • Provide a forum for resources and discussion

Eligibility
Anyone supporting a person living with an FASD is welcome
